Meet Ha'Morah Rina

My name is Rina Thau, the Hebrew language teacher at Hillel Academy.

When I married my husband, a now retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, little did I realize how our travel experiences would afford me the opportunity to teach both Hebrew and Judaica across the United States for well over 30 years, the last eight of which being truly a joy here at Hillel Academy.

Teaching Hebrew seems to be one of my true heartfelt passions.  This is not just because I am fluent in Hebrew as a native born Israeli. Rather, I attribute this desire to teach Hebrew from the gratification felt (by children and teacher alike) when students quickly become conversant in Hebrew, in both a fun and enjoyable learning environment.

The Hebrew learning environment I foster at Hillel is an emergence concept. The program itself (known as TaL AM), is based on the notion that the best learning environment for children is one which knowledge is aacquired through a variety of activities, using each of the five senses.  In addition to textbook studies, students learn the Hebrew language through music, games and visual aids, and at the same time, develop a keen understanding of Jewish concepts and values. By making the study of Hebrew and Judaism relevant to the children’s everyday lives, the program enables them to develop a true appreciation of their heritage, and understand the need for continued, lifelong Jewish study.

I see myself as a very lucky person because I wake up every morning excited and eager to go to work, and do what I love.
